ASTM B366 is a standard specification for nickel alloy pipe fittings, including those made from Inconel 718. Inconel 718 is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant nickel-chromium alloy known for its exceptional mechanical properties, including excellent tensile, fatigue, and creep-rupture strength, as well as good resistance to corrosion and oxidation at elevated temperatures.
Inconel 718 pipe fittings are primarily composed of nickel, chromium, iron, and lesser amounts of niobium, molybdenum, titanium, aluminum, and other alloying elements. This composition provides the alloy with its unique combination of high-strength properties and resistance to corrosion and oxidation.
Inconel 718 pipe fittings are generally weldable using conventional welding techniques such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). Proper welding procedures and filler materials compatible with Inconel 718 should be used to ensure the integrity of the welded joints.
